Winter's eve

Baking bread, knitting, relaxing...a great way to spend a cold winter's evening. Last night I baked a loaf of the basic recipe bread from the book Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day. The method is great- you make up a batch of dough, keep it in your fridge, and then when you want a loaf you take some off and bake it up for 30 minutes. The resulting loaf was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Plus it was great to have fresh baked bread with dinner. I'm getting ready to seam together the Baby Aran Sweater from the book Knitting for Baby by Melanie Falick and Kristin Nicholas. I like this pattern, and have made it once before. The shoulders are fitted with buttons which is great for getting the sweater over baby's head.

Hands down, the best way to celebrate the holidays.

Lace Leaf Scarf

Currently in the works are a few different projects, in various stages of completion. The most urgent is this, a lace leaf scarf- a gift for my Mom's birthday on January 16. The pattern is from the Spring/Summer 2005 issue of Vogue Knitting. I saw the completed scarf here in Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino and really loved it. I'm hoping that after some blocking the lace-effect of the yarn overs will be more evident.

Renewed blogging for the new year!

My last post was May 26, 2006, so let's just say I took a little break. I'm resuming my blog however, for the following reason: I used to feel like it wasn't worthwhile to blog if others weren't reading it, and then over the past 19 months I've decided that the blog is for me! I wanted to revisit some of my old knitting projects and remember yarn substitutions I've made and the like and didn't have a record of that stuff anywhere. So, voila, the blog suddenly seems like a grand idea once more. Here's my first "renewal" post (let's just call it a new year's resolution of sorts). Finished these socks for my 3 year old nice over the Christmas holidays. Love the yarn. Its Die Supersocke by Online. The pattern is one I found online here.
